AS my heart aches and it’s mind-numbing pain
you became that dark light side of me
my sense, as though i drank hemlock drunk
or smoked some dull opiate to the drain
As time-space sided with Love and my mouth
sang: one minute past and Lethe-wards sunk:
unspinning time toward my past where my
best friends sang: ’tis not through envy
of they happy lot.’ They wished to hear
what i saw in my miserable visions of
future. I was the game of the big city.
Love wax cold; women wearing pants
and men wearing dresses. And what i
saw i n’ver say as diction of mouth
could give summer and winter —
fire or ice and ooh i saw 22nd century
life in all my wizardry vain.
I sang upon One World Trade Center
“o soft embalmer of time and still
this midnight with streaming tears
and embower’d from sacred light,
those who died enshaded in eternal
divine. Oh! Soothest sleep.
And more. Conveyance. Water for wishing,
dresses and food for a weak want.
The future world of abundance but no one
there understands the miracles of this
living.
