A HUNDRED POEMS – V

BONE pure and strong
winds feed my wings
a heart tender-string
bleach dreams swim
My life —
it is my own?
then my butler
— death
and dirt so lovingly friend
bury, or wind carry me
to my imaginal realm
between my dreams and stars

FAIRIES SAY

I drew a wet line
across your leaf-vein
humidity my disdain
and fairies say
golden hearts bleed
a tasty flavor brew
but if i ever sing
in melancholy tone
the heavens know
a sadness yet untold…

If I ever forgave you
let me remember babe
cause the heavy rains
keep pushing me down

WET HONEY SUCKLE

Trip — I fall so sure am I
that my resting place
at your feet, tenderly
that bee seeks a spice
a honey sickle kiss
For me leave your touch
upon that spot that beats
My eternal love dream
seek me and love-see

LEATHER SATCHEL

THE fatigue of life
a limp leather satchel
worn, torn, cracked
and weather-born
within the creases
those letters and bits
fragments of hopes
and dreams dither-be
the sonofabitches
they almost got
the better of me!

BEAT-O-ILL-ME

GOLDEN WORD

My wave of emotion rolls tender silk
a lullaby song against spring speak
oh lovely rolling rapturous  lips
bleeding dreams and waves into me
what woman are you that you be
so elegantly complete in mine eyes
a symphony of bee-so-loving-thoven
that beauty so angelic stay secret
if for me and no other man – spoken
I love you and that is golden woman

GREAT FORGIVENESS GIVEN

I — caught in a discreet position this day
but the gods of lovely forgiveness
sang to me a tune in your voice
it was pink in nature — eloquent touch
and those eyes forgave in rich measure
a price that my life could never repay
what to say to that light that gives
a space between the shadows i walk
my love you are a dream that lives
and i am a dark spot you light my love
there are more than seven wonders
this life i live speaks of an eighth
let my humble love be enough for you
that your heart might ache no more

SUGARCANE

The cane-fields were thick and tall but the summer’s sun much higher.
We ran through those paths between the green rows of sweetness
and the laughter of your voice made the sugarcane that much sweeter.
I cut down a stalk at the risk of some farmer finding out and made a flute
and we danced on the riverbank of the Mighty Mississippi that day.
You told me to follow my dreams whatever they might become but I said
I only had one dream and it had come true that day.  We were 13 and
I moved on but you died the following week.

SLEEP AWAKE SLEEPING

IT is not the chosen:
those words of symbolic
perturbations dwelling
deeply within the folds
of your animal minds
but the evocation
of emotional spirit
that compels the tear
or reaction of the sublime
