the stairs became more
tiny as i took each step
until i had to step upon
nonsense
— i thought of those
muggy nights in a trailer
by the Mississippi River:
so perched inside my fear-
just a boy in the early
70s and my skin made it
hurt. so beautiful
is the world — but we pay
with emotional destruction.

Hey, good evening. I really like your poem. I grew up near the Mississippi river so the title attracted me at first. Your message is telling me something and your way of words is impressive. I want to feature this on my poetry corner. I will reblog this post on my page and hopefully, others will come and visit your page. Nice work and I can’t wait to read more of your writings.

Hi kgbethlehem :). I was born in Texas but grew up along the Mississippi River in Gonalzes. I love the South so much. I was born in 63 and saw all that stupid stuff. I am brown and at that point while growing up only knew people of color and I love my friends. So much. Have a good evening. And thank you so much. I have several unique stories about the Mississippi River and New Orleans I’ve never written — but you have somehow inspired me.
