A HUNDRED POEMS XV

sweet faith come to me
that darkness seeps
and my weather vane

                            so empty
a petal- less flower weep

stare i do above my fear
and see a golden glow
it rises kissing horizon

that is my faith
            my dear

that shower my vane
until it full
of the power of light

to feed my wither
soul

LIFE AND LINE

Well now — I’m just a man
but you could do worst
my dear I’m a man willing
to make more of my life

and i hear a calling
that voice of the dead
but my fist punches it
so my life is too tough

and the flesh is pure
but my life to day
it keeps me going
moma said i’m a good boy

and i knew when i took
that first walk it was easy
and after those a hell to walk
but my fire is hotter than hell

and I walk that life and line
a step of fire each time
and i burn each mile walked
but life is a bitch now girl

and i walk and walk life
and dragging life is my toll
but i love to feel the fire
and life is a love i kiss

I walk that life and line

THE WEDDING

THIS I told to the man
who wed my daughter…

“In the mathematics of love…
1 + 1 = 1 “

and, I so gently placed
my daughter’s hand
upon the soul I trust

THE SLEEP

i went to sleep in a bed of roses
in 1563 whilst William Byrd appointed
organist at the Cathedral —
and awoke in a dream —
in 1963 did i and took a stroll
in infant dreams, amazed was i
those colors brilliant and cold i wept
and wish i did to escape
back into that forest
where i slept — in that bed
of fragrant roses which I slept
and now a soul captured — me
a sentence i endure until that end

A HUNDRED POEMS XIIII

(TO MY DAUGHTER)

1.

What spirit imbue that flesh

a love as thy mother in her best

twinkle eye too, heart of gold

that mystic flair balance dew

upon the blade of green-soothe

And touch thy father’s heart, too!

2.

And thou tend to good deeds

that love and life bequeath all

a fire and tender twinkle too

thy father so joyous tears sing

and moon and bird-song along

shall forever follow you!

3.

Her lovely grace in turmoil say

and his heart too shall always beat

for you the world and all its gifts

not of gold or position in world

but that tender spot angels dance

that room which first I met you

A HUNDRED POEMS XIII

Image

What gather beneath thou feet
a thorn by lost tender rose
or a shadow that wish sleep

dear love star-shine more
that path you light for me
a journey from death to life

misadventure by heart and love
what true-life doth not tend
fracture feeling we expend

love-my-loving heart sooth
a gracious wind sweep us hath
over-above and-up unto heaven

ONE LESS MYSTERY

SO MANY have tried to explain Life
in their complexity of syntax
they lost the goal
I say to you my fellow souls
life is nothing more or less
yes, it is what you desire
and there it is!

A HUNDRED POEMS XII

A bent leg

one in the puddle

that grey sky
but not my heart
a red rose
that fragrance – hope

and these words
falling sprites

upon your tender soul —
what voice do you heart,

heaven or mortal man before
that prostate himself unto you

spirit or flesh or both
what take you — love and life?
or a memory upon your trails

that message I await upon lips

A HUNDRED POEMS XI

Does tragedy desire love
     this I think
  and know
a loss of one in life
that the flesh

                 lives
but the love

    die

Does tragedy desire love

yes it does       and upon a petal
that dark black rose

it grows

                   within a dry soil

Amaryllis Loves You

And I clipped your hip
just a soft touch too
that swept through you
a frozen moment – burst
sunshine sweet Amaryllis
wept the world and me too
that graceful love be you
