WALLSTREET BLUE WHALE

I’m wearing a white jacket and there’s a van with men in white
suits waiting for me to finish my cigarette.  I painted a blue
whale upon a city scape and all the flotsam and jetsam flooded
downtown and the men in suits screamed curses at the raven
perched upon the tower of shame and greed.  I confess, the women
in suits kissed me and urged me on and so I created a golden
river down Wall Street made of mud so the creeps and money-hungry
bastards could drown in the remnants of their greed.  Wall Street
drowned and Michael that Archangel sheathed his sword, said,
“Good deem done human friend.”  So I moved to another house, made
of white and there I found another blue crab that my blue whale
had missed to eat…I didn’t’ have the heart — the decay was
already set in, so I moved onward.  In truth, the Earth is a
beautiful marble and I would always keep it in my bag and never
play it.  Instead I found the tallest mountain and sang my heart
out and threw flowers downwind so the souls could smell roses and
know the day is nigh…something great to happen.  Soon.

WORDS DESTROY ME

This is the last kiss
a memory yet to burn
those souls who regret
a hand played badly
What was it you said?
“life is a game played”
such words you’ll regret
when your life crumbles
I knew the verdict
when I saw you walking
toward me not looking
and my heart shattered
too many pieces to gather
and your words destroy me
“life is a game played”
When the sky falls
I crumble into pieces
and your soul too
one day will burn
when you remember
the heart you destroyed

A FARMER’S ODE

Tenderly, I touched
a garden unattended
that heart a field
bleed the seasons
across those crops
I missed but loved
my dear nature-love
what more of you
that the sun took
my youth and skin
I worked your soil
and sweat soul toil
for you I work
those vast fields
You produce bounty
such graceful crops
and I kiss your soil
and eat your fields
My muscle — your love

A HUNDRED POEMS – 044

Stay, do not leave;  please, discover me
I am hidden, shadow skin,
Inviolable soul am I
Steadfast!

Those, who stab and bite my thoughts
it is fear, a half-awakened spirit;
kindness, compassion — accused weakness
young souls be children
a sign of misunderstanding
If not for the stars my knees would bleed
their fire support my weight

Love who born me — my mother, kiss me!
a voice I need and her hugs too — please
tonight I incite the prayer

Come!  Come!
Your  child  is  hungry – less
the spirits feed upon that flesh
the world should glimpse a moment

That dreams are true and life a wooden stage
Her wings iridescent blue!

BRUTE HUMORS LOVE

What grows —
Love or
        brute
animal behavior
delivers strength
but love —
a future of peace
one a feathered peacock
the other Angelic wings

SPRING FEVER

Spring fever has come
to all of you who know
and love freedom too

Thomas has a tree
he planted, needs feeding
and any blood will do
a finger scratches

not a sniff-and-do
but a document made
years ago in soul-gold

We love and love do
liberty dance with me
freedom breeds life
and life is a whore
she loves everyone

So now, a silence sings
it’s everywhere too
and the world’s eyes
stare and bleed at you
We have a show to tell

Feed me love my liberty
i taste the blood of ages
and my soul i give to you
oh, never mind the fear
instant fame for heroes

and the tree grows
a stem strong and firm
and guns and roses too
sing me that freedom song

A HUNDRED POEMS – 049

Come base-note
feet pondering
ebony-ivory      keys
lyrical phrase —
lift my heart-clef
poised before measure
n’ver a common time
that life       consumes
the chambers
of my music hall
bring to me    my songs
each moment — symphony
the notes fall
but never shatter
only scatter about

PURPLE CABBAGE

born a rebel he screamed
his first words to the doctor:
this is a mistake make it go away!
so he was born with a mind
and took it everywhere he traveled
packing it in a grocery bag next
to his red-tagged soul
and the purple cabbage
Go away! Go away! You’re insane!
leaving home he took his womb
a shrived skin of plastic and a spoon
to feed the lawn animals and milk tooth
the priests exercised their will in him
tried to break the spirit and the spell
but their hands were too fast — Mother
she cried and the statues bled
this is all a mistake
make it all go away
Go away! Go away! Just go away!

A HUNDRED POEMS – 047

we born of riches
all of us
aristocrat — even beggared
the mighty and the frail-small
a vault of bars in gold
earmarked for life’s events
swiftly/quaintly we spend
some to squander
into the wind —
the wise, thrifty
for the long road

A HUNDRED POEMS – 039

I lay bare
my soul
to eternity —
to see my clay
form —
from celestial
breath have I come
I now lay bare
a fall from grace —
In human form
