I BRING TO YOU MY HEART

Mother, I bring to you my heart
You taught me kindness
But this world is an ugly place
It withers the skin of my soul

Mother, forgive me for weakness
You taught me much too well
How to be a good man in this place
It destroys those who appear weak

And I will take the hand that is kind
and appease the gods that demand —
a soul for a heart in a crazy world

So, mother, give me your love
and tell me a lullaby so I can believe
in true love — it may never come my way

I bring to you my heart
broken by deep despair
lay it upon your pillow
and pray I can live again

SHE ENTWINES YOUR SPIRIT

She entwines your spirit
As a spinster with the yarn
Creating the apparel
for your naked heart

She encases your soul
in brilliant precious gold
The financier of your future
her love makes you the richest

She protects your sense of self
and battles the weaker you
The man you are is what she made
her love, spirit, and soul…

Is yours to cherish and forever hold…

DYING IN BED

The bed, a crime scene of sorts
a passion spilled in sweat
Willingly i go – to my death

He comes to me in the night
a sword sharpened by lust
and thrusts it into my soul

Mother, I’m ready to come home
but the line between pain & pleasure
is small compared to the pleasant death

The coroner will say an untimely passing
but my murderous lover knew the timing
each plunge of his knife ever deeper.

EQUATIONS

There are some
Equations
whose solutions are not
based on numbers
but love

LOSING YOU

WE met at the local coffee shop
I told you the romance was over
You choked at first then cried
You said you have already left me

I walked away and did not look back
You were crying and so very alone

On my way home I saw a wreck —
“No survivors” the police said

Then I recognized the car —
and realized your words

Within the carnage of twisted metal
there you were
and had been dead for hours

PICASSO

Picasso
where do you draw the line
disjointed  reasons
etches across my mind
a proverbial thought on hinge

what say you my man – so abstract
rejoicing voices
love shares bisecting angles
and pleasure diverge across points

a fissure in creativity moves
you crawled out
punching reality in the jaw
shatter concepts – creating new law

GHOST IN FLESH

I NEVER want to forget
what pain your advice bought
My thick bloodstained hands
are forever in your debt
and you, a ghost in flesh is what my heart sought
you are the sky and wind
in my eternal anguish tonight
crying eyes bleeding notes
played on broken strings
bring on the orchestra until the fat lady sings
You are the ghost in flesh
cutting into my brain
forget the dinner and bring on the cake
so much pain
never want to forget the pleasure of a half measure
makes you so happy and me so insane
Till the curtain falls you are within the halls of my soul

DARKNESS EMBRACED

I WALKED into darkness and she embraced me
all the while her eyes kept looking for weakness
I stayed for a while and shared a cup of tea

I politely told her that I could only stay
for 4 or 5 years and not a day more — you see
it was enough for her if enough for me

on the last day darkness wept to lose a friend
but I embraced her cold hands and kissed her lips
and said I loved her melancholy but must leave to live

LOVE [14th CENTURY]

FIERCELY my desire burns within
my heart – a rare survivor
a medieval fortress upon —
rolling hills and orchards

Such a scale is my passion
high curtain walls and towers
portcullis never used on you
only your footsteps —

upon the Great Hall

Come to me, against the wind
your travel less a burden
than my will greater for you
toward me from Torquay come

We shall dance and love forever
