WHEN MEN ARE AFRAID OF THE LIGHT

my heart is a monster
born to destroy those who come
too close to my flame
–i trade desire
for a piece of your soul
(even though i
know i am human, oh!)
Even though i held
the cup Jesus bleed within
i am a monster
and someone said
“love isn’t something you
find — love is something
that finds you”
and what do i get for my
pain? another monster
who loves love as a game
and i know i suppose
all of my life i’m afraid;
to accept a child who’s
afraid of the dark
but not when men are
afraid of the light
so i cut my wrists!
and what do you want?
it’s 4:20 and i’m gone!

RIDING A TRICYCLE

there comes a moment when i die every day, and sometimes the
taste of lemon in my mouth and sometimes a fragrance of
regretful roses which stuns me since i forgot what love
smells like, mostly. i remember my childhood on sidewalks
on a tricycle and how i counted creases between slabs
of concrete never knowing i measured moments of
how my life would unfold — i think life is small feet
upon pedals where we sometimes slip and scrap our ankles.
When we are young and small the world is a very tall and
scary place; when we’re grown it’s even more so.
i remember ice cream and a bright moon at night too.
Mostly i remember freedom from all ideology and prejudice
which i have fiercely tried to keep within my heart.

AND DON’T YOU CRY

don’t cry
my baby don’t cry
when, like the stars
shine i want to see
your eyes bright

so, like i never meant
to be so mean my baby
so don’t you cry
the evening’s too young

and when you dry your eyes
we can be sweet like you
know –know i gave you me
once again i’ll stop the stars

just to have your heart again

so so so don’t cry
my baby don’t you cry
just take me, i felt you \\
like steps trailing down
onto the shores of romance
into a rock garden of
heart-shaped rocks
whose stones are figural
and knows me
so come on my sweet woman
let’s be as one again

A PRESCRIPTION FOR CURE

Saw the doctor and told him of
all my ails — took off my shirt
and he checked the ticker inside
my skin
after an hour of listing to all the
trouble i’ve seen so far in life
he gave me a slip of paper
and said, “son, run through
that door and down the street
and see the pharmacist”
i shook my head and grabbed
my shirt, didn’t even put it back on
and made a beeline to the CVS
the clerk at the counter took the
slip and shook his head and walked
into the back of his pills and liquids
i didn’t know what else to do so
i followed my doc’s instructions and
glad i did — the pharmacist returned
and placed a 5th of Johnny Walker
on the counter and said, “take 5 shots
a night to cure all your troubles away”
Ha ha, i said a prayer leaving the store
and figured i’ll keep my doctor by
my side.

SHE’S IN A SUN-DRESS MOOD

ah, she’s in a sun-dress mood
all yellow with flowers
so blue and oh it’s so good
she has an apple-eye
strawberry mouth
singing how the sun
came on down to kiss her
and now
wow!
Ah, it feels so good
and how wishes are
like the wind and
whispers in my ear:
“you’re a lucky
heart to have her”
AH! It’s so good to
see her in a sun-dress mood!

MY PETS

THEY all become my pets
it’s getting worse
when i realized my
pain was hanging by
a thread behind
the walls across the yard
the finest day i ever had
inside a deep pit
where drops of tears
hang in the air
that hummingbirds lick
and the sun burns away
somewhat like my life
and there’s something
in the wind i cannot see
but feel like the hope
beneath my skin that crawls:
it asks: do you love yourself?
and i have no words to explain
so i won’t complain
they’re all my pets

THIS BURNING FIRE CALLED LIFE

THERE are soft fields which
no mind has painted
but hearts (which are really
always not human) run through
the tall grass as brushed nudes
and life is short but tall canvases
which where-by and bye our (h(e))ARTS
give some meaning.
And there is a sky so high
as deep as Soul erasing ignorance
from all minds inflamed by the minor
length of our traveled roads.
Is it not always short; the hello, goodbye,
love, hate and
a burning fire called Life!

AS MY PRINCE AS LEAVES

LIFE! as my prince,
as leaves
in morning dew
brightly aglow
or no ?
as my prince
as leaves
upon the ground
all greens
dark and dull?

then Over-death
by sudden memory
hope tugging string
attached to sun
whose horizon
–too tall!

as leaves my prince
in morning dew
and all greens
so dark and dull

as my prince leaves

WHO I AM NEVER WHERE

WHEN and then
f e e l i n g
pulls meanings
i cannot remember
fallings-ME into
the life’s River
BUT then, always then!
i remember fearings
singing ‘love me,
love me for what
i am!’ and then-ingly
i weep knowingly
this is the dream
and maybe the One
i never awaken from!
nature comes:
saving me! From me
and unto all i
: my abstract mind
and flesh are at
greatest odds!

EVERYONE’S ACQUIRING A TASTE

if i taste crystal skies would i feel cold ice
and like your smile and cold blue eyes
or even brown or black — an even space so

everyone is lying in bed happily
i’m so alien — amazing that everyone is

acquiring joy and love and suddenly
i know i smell :: everyone lying in my head so

happily i say amazing just to taste
cross-species and intelligence
like the One every living thing knows –:– made

us this way. So suddenly, i remember i am
so sucked into a program of love and i am quietly

swollen-ly the chase of His program full
of aliens and it’s amazing how everyone is

requiring a taste of a thing called “amazing”
and everyone is tasting blood
–so amazing, and i love you my simple ALIEN.
