BORN UPON A RAFT

I WAS born upon a raft
a castaway upon the sea
many a year ago my birth
— upon the briny deep

And all I know
is the vast waters
all points across
an oceanic reality

But once I dreamed
born I be upon a land
where all I saw
was disharmony

all points across
vast humanity
where fear and pain
delivered a daily dose

I now realize my
birth-induced reality
is far better than
human-animal insanity

SPILL AND SPLASH

THIS my mind said to me:
like a babbling brook I dream
so clearly in my crystal waters
I smooth the surface of your soul
and beneath I tumble spirit-so…

As my thoughts rumble-flow
against the tide — your shoreless life
my banks constrict but do direct
across the eddies and whirlpools
toward the eventual waterfall
In the end you spill and splash

I THOUGHT A SPARROW

IT was with a bang
that first I heard
I thought a sparrow
— had hit the house
My sorrow for the sparrow
— so immense
The second bang shook my soul
surely a quake that rocked my world
My fears for the township
— so profound
The third and last
tore through my heart
and brought me back
— to my senses
as the firing squad
— completed their task

THE MORTAL WOUND

THE mortal wound cut my soul
— a sword through thought
jutted through skin and bone
Why fear the thinking voice
— a visitor we receive —
mostly without choice?
Comes fright not from
the unspoken words
but a ring of truth
that may be heard

THE GREAT INDULGENCE

MY one and only
great indulgence
not of liquor
or consuming food
but the air I breath
— the sun I see

Simple and pleasant
such is living life
the great indulgence
a song that some
choose to dance
with partner or alone

THE GREAT ABSTINENCE

HOW I miss the touch
of tender flesh
loving eyes
such gentle kiss
But weak I was
before many born
and took my life
— emotional storm
But if I could
look back with eyes
or shout above
these screaming cries
to you say I would
— love life
live in love
whether pain or sorrow
for the living
— there’s always tomorrows

IF NOT NATURE THEN WHOM?

WHAT does nature whisper
as she flows through your life
a gentle breeze across the fields
bending blade and stem

and you see such grandeur
through a car window
golden fields across deep blue
who loves you if not lovely nature

the lover who never cheats
showing lasting beauty
within her bosom
if not nature then whom?

TEARS IN THE RAIN

IT wasn’t so long ago
that we meet
inside our minds
Once you had a choice
I gave you more of mine
Now nothing will be
that hasn’t had a chance
living inside your skull
has given me much clarity
because…

Tears in the rain
–get lost
Tears in the rain
–drown you

Does it bother you to know
just how lonely that you are
Silence has a name and more
It’s written across your heart

Years living in vain
–ruined you
Years being insane
–became you
Yes you…

TAKE ME

TAKE me
and make me
with you
— as one

Break me
eat me
consumed
— as one

Shake me
stake me
my life
— with you

dead alive
heartbeat red
raining grey
— let die

An echo
past life
dreaming light
— a wakeful soul

AND WHAT IF LOVE

And what if love
could be given
without fear
or inhibition

and just as easy
to receive —
as loving one another
wouldn’t hearts sing?

And what if love
could be received
without question
or expectation?

To live within a world
without broken hearts
love could thrive
like two close lovers

Lets begin to change
the color of our world
and believe in love
and let it grow…
