A HUNDRED POEMS — VII

FATHER, oh father where were you
my crib is destroyed by time
and clothing many sizes bigger
and scars upon my heart and soul
that list many write of loss
too lengthy for me to scribe
some memory still exists —
imagery through thick glass
once I believed I be born
but now reside in resolve —
you were never birthed nor lived
and me by mother —
immaculate
conception

CIVILIZED-WILD

a step or two into the civilized-wild
just a breath or two from safety
and the stares stabbed me in the heart
and what thoughts they threw i knew
it had to do with the body i grew

sometimes — sometimes i cry enough
but times these times are so damn tough
if i could catch a rocket to the moon
— i would too

i run back into my four-walled universe
where opinion is the hardest, me-on-me
and the only friend i have isn’t flesh
but that special mirror that fixes things
and i cry so tired i cry the world’s tears

THE POOR BEGGAR

Image

THE poor beggar called loneliness
no worse have I see —
tattered clothes and holes for sock
and outstretched arms —
not for money

but for love

WHEN LOVE IS NOT ENOUGH

Image
(c) e.p.robles 2012

when the words cut so deeply
do you cry for a lost love
when a long day comes to end

and has anyone ever said
they love you in truth
chasing ghosts away most

i can say love is my heart
and what darkest sorrow
i could never give it back

and you cry death away
and life cradles you
lovely soul hold on

and listen to me now
i would rather be alone
then betray such a love

so when the wind cuts you
and when you look away
know i am always with you

IF I LIVE TO SEE

Image
(c) E.P. Robles 2012

a long time ago
a certain place
in a peculiar time
a naive notion

we danced in hand
and cursed the time
that moves across life
two lovers kissed by love

but if i ever live to see
such a love again in life
i will run toward Hades
that fire burns less than you

someone like you so intense
touched me across the land
beyond the surface or air
and grabbed my soul so tight

and you spoke candy words
to this gentle soul inside
i wanted to believe in you
but you decided to lie instead

and if I ever live to see
such a love again in life
I will run toward Hades
such a fire is cooler than you

WHEN?

Image

The day my skies darkened
such lost a cavity in my soul
Immortal doings completely so
that living a drudgery act
When a spirit feels such truth
each tick-tock touches you
loss of love removes a piece
let my days be numbered do!

BROKEN THOLE

Image
(c) E.P. Robles 2012

And with a shout-sharp word
the chandelier of your heart
shatters — a burst of broken dream
the auctioneer sells your soul
what was once a sphere of tender love
now just tears and broken thole

FIVE POEMS (iv)

IV

such wind blows my love upon your dreams
that flower of fields once knew bright warmth
and now the grasp of pain so cold sweeps
upon frozen tears pain hurts the soul
i should say come away — away from sorrow
but the gate between fate and me is locked
should i find that eternal key — be your heart

THE OATH OF LOVE

Image
(c) E.P. Robles 2013

I gave my love to one
and swore to God above
she would be the one
I would die in old age
loving and cherishing
and this I swore before
mankind and heaven
even the angels of glory
that she walked away
was not my bidding
so here I stand
firmly in faith
that my word is strong
and shall never sway
that she walked away
does not mean
I did the same
so I remain
empty handed
but still in love

A DROP OF TEAR

Image

A drop of tear split ages
asunder my fears lover
time no more than mind
but love such as ours
gently touches life
and living must we
between fear and pain
and love and fame
nothing compared dear
to that heart of yours
that which I die for
many times each day
my majesty lives
within my dreams
love and lover
forever more
