Love is a Nation

Love is a Nation of little people
the invisible workers of
inexhaustible nature;
a titter-patter walking
across all hearts
and passing through doors,
across erected walls.
some cry, “Hello!”
but mostly they go unknown
with tiny eyes glistening
and heavy souls

The Imperial Garden

I walk the
Imperial Garden

Elements of Nature

AND shadows shout!
AND fog like muffled cries
obscuring life-like carnivals
when all lights sleep!

BUTTERFLY ii

i cried cutting two knees
across the sidewalk
thinking i could run
through this thing
called life
i sat upon a grassy
hill fearing life
and saw a color
coming toward me;
butterfly!  come to me,
oh! come to me!
she gently sat upon my lap
easily turning pain
into a life from
a dark night
you were only waiting
for this moment to be
and butterfly i never
saw your colors but now
a painting life
like you i stroke
within all my heart!
she flew away — with
all my blessings
butterfly!

THE WEEPING QUEEN

And wet was night
the blades of green
by full moonlight
and spring.
The little ones
upon the ground
moved toward the
window-sill
to see the queen,
weeping within
the night!
And hushed; the woods
and flying hearts and
creeping life,
and shadow things;
the queen be sad!
And lit by grief
like falling stars
began to chant,
“The queen must
laugh and not
be sad!”
And all o’ flowers
and tender things
began to dance
angelic song!
And Queen did smile;
her spirit lifted
by sweet Nature.

DEVOTION

i walk the meadows lovingly
and today chanced upon
a feeling!
and my feet left mortal
ground to fly      away!
toward the skies and
love i chased!
was you, oh! always you!
affection mirrored
in that morning dew
allegiance like the hills
and passion, the river
that never remains still!
that love i chased
always devotion,
it be at least like
nature but so more
like you!

IF LIKE FIELDS IN SPRING

IF like fields in spring
when mostly likeLove comes
and I were not present
like most times
And almost-Mostly scarcely here
should I-I could stand abroad
On golden fields to the plenty
;bounty, colors of nature’s kiss
-ing me Is a petite lip
with broad smile!

A HUNDRED POEMS – LXVI

I think today
i broke a word
in my ignorance
i did the deed
Within my garden
i stabbed with spade
upon a letter in damp soil,
lay the bee!  in my haste
i slay-She! and shouted
in thunder: “Oh!
It cannot, BEE!”

You survive
to keep the gods
in check
the heart strives
early mornings
for a worm to peck!

The bluejay is true

SWAN UPON THE POND

THAT broken hearts
wear a s oul,
and faith like
long-necked geese
i wished to be
the swan upon
your pond

where solemn eyes
speak no word
and life-like
silverKey unlocks
my mind

—it’s a spilled moonbean —
upon a silver lake
and my webbed feet
of that floating mouth
gliding silently
upon my life
