A VISION

I saw a rock hit the abode
and oceans swayed below
only sky remained dried
this my friend, deceased
showed a decade ago
And fires that burned
an Earth, opened hungry
that gapping mouth for life
and fear fed Judgment

THE VILE THING

I saw some things as a kid, yes I did.
Born in Texas and moved to Louisiana
when my mother had enough of the beatings
from her drug-crazed musician of a husband.
I have to tell you that my dad was a racist.
He didn’t trust people of white skin but
I had no idea about his failings at that
early of age 0-5.  I only knew one brand
of skin under his roof and it was non-white
to ebony.  He was a womanizer too and
I didn’t know that he should not have
taken me along his rides on Sunday
to the ‘ball game’ when in fact he was
seeing some young beautiful woman
downtown Houston.  She would always
give me a kiss on the cheek.  Her
language was Spanish but I didn’t
understand a speck of her words but
did understand her touching my dad.

Mom moved to the swampland which
was very fitting for her and us
boys.  There are some places in
Louisiana that truly never see the
ray of sun due to the foliage
and Spanish Moss.  She smothered
many years of our youth in this
bayou avenue of murky brown waters
that mixed with voodoo and spirits
that to this day have no clear name.
The tales to tell are too many
even for a prolific writer — if
he may ever come to the table
to write about those nebulous
images and scents and emotions.
But there are a few things that I
can write about and it deals with
the most diseased and hateful
thing under the sun.  Prejudice.
I saw it first-hand in the 1960s,
and was a part of the victims
albeit not so much as my friends
of darker color who still reside
within the bayou land.  I saw
it and witnessed it all in full-
color.

I really don’t think there’s enough
whiskey or wine or even drugs to
open that door for my keyboard.
It is a vile thing to see fellow
humans this way and I am disgraced
by my association with humanity.

We are all children under one roof.
And we all have only one Father.
I hope he returns home soon.
There’s a reckoning to be hand.
Sooner than later I pray.

DASHBOARD LIGHTS

Image
(c) E.P. Robles 2012

fragment image smiling
disjointed feelings reeling
shifting time’s a feeling
so fine this lovely healing

I’m flying over you —
safely crazy you
the wolves are out tonight
secure my burning feelings

Tarot giving higher vision
so lost within possession
what last heartbeat collision
it sings to me tonight
deeply sleeping in obsession

car crash moment halting
twisted dreams in mesh
my dreams become a stalling
beneath the dashboard lights

A night for youth but haunting
living fast and burning
confused illusions running
too soon we pass beyond

THE DEATH OF BIRTH AND LOVE

IT has been the same since birth
first the traumatic life of entrance
into such tenderly love…
both of mother and loving mate
followed by horrific separation
such we humans suffer in fate

LOVE — THE STALKER

Vampire Kiss (2)

LOVE has stalked me
thrice with its cunning
and more than once
has slay with its fangs
such a hunter is it
I fear it will not abate
and in the end I fear
first a mate then the end

NO WONDER

WHEN in sleep and I dream
sometimes little things
from the land-of-here
fall through the sleep
into over-there
Such no wonder then
that when I dream
the same reversal
happens here —
explains the reason
for the monster
in my closet…

BONE CAVE

HUMANS think the house
— the only haunt
As though the wood
conjures the Spirits
of other-worlds

But the mind has rooms
which lurks some evil
a cave of skull
— the dark anteroom
sometimes possessed…

Our stupidity in all
that life contains
Barely a morsel
a nibble at best
Hungry for life we be

Escape from there
to here we run
so busy are we, finishing
So leisurely
we wish it be!

MOONLIGHT PALE

A SLUMBERING breeze blows
beyond clambering hills
and conjures a song
So somber from trees

Beneath…

Crystal silence sings
a painful burning flesh
and threads in dreams
devouring numbing stings

So stiff the twilight
that constricts my throat
I muffle a yawning cry
from dawning fright

The moon…

Lay pale in listless shroud
and death is no wonder
In varnished white clouds
comes rumbless thunder

Never a stretch in mind
Oh, fiery blood, crackle bone
Only limb, neck and hair
Sharp fangs– a soulless moan

And you…

Forgive me, for I am cannibal
so romantic and tragic is my tail
Slaying both human and animal
always beneath a moonlight pale

I am the shadow

Beneath your footfalls
and dark cold light within
In tearless eyes of yellow
My hunger screams for you

In your dreams

I come, nimble and serene
Prancing first for smell
toward scents you resemble
and within your morbid dreams

I will always scream for you
